Richards only joking about dad’s ashes

in Whitney Houston World

Hello, I’m Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Thursday, April 5, 2007.

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards admits he was only joking when he said he snorted his dad’s ashes. The rocker’s manager says the comment is untrue and the rocker never thought people would take it seriously. Richards told a British music magazine he mixed his father’s cremated remains with cocaine before inhaling it. He now says his father’s ashes are sprinkled below an oak tree.

The divorce of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown is now approved. People magazine reports the divorce will become final April 24. A judge gave custody of their 14 year-old daughter to Houston. The couple had been together for 14 years.

CNN is replacing its morning show anchors. The Washington Post reports Soledad O’Brien and Miles O’Brien will no longer anchor “American Morning”…in hopes of raising their ratings. CNN correspondents John Roberts and Kiran Chetry will take their spots. Network insiders say both O’Briens will remain at CNN and take on correspondent positions.

Singers John Mayer and Jessica Simpson are reportedly getting cozy… down under. The couple have been seen traveling around Australia together for the past few days. People magazine reports they arrived there on Saturday and have been making their way around the country for Mayer’s concert tour. They’ve been seen holding hands, snuggling and giggling. One source says they seem like a great couple.

The recipients of the Peabody Awards have been announced. The awards honor the best in electronic media. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation was recognized for their documentary “Why We Fight”…looking at decades of military conflict. Other Peabody winners include NBC’s show “Friday Night Lights” and Showtime’s “Brotherhood.” The late Ed Bradley of “60 Minutes” was honored for one of his final stories about the Duke University rape investigation. Awards will be presented June 4 in New York.

That’s all for now. Go to upi.com to see a new special segment called “The Power of a Pet.” It’s under “features” on the video update page.
